Susan Karp Addresses Recent Developments in Environmental Law at NJ-NAIOP Business Issues Seminar

On December 5, 2006, our partner Susan Karp joined a panel of Environmental Law experts at the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP) New Jersey Chapter’s Business Issues Update Seminar.

Susan spoke on a number of key topics which included:

  • The potential impact of changes recently adopted by NJ Commerce requiring development under the state’s Brownfield Reimbursement Program to comply with Prevailing Wage mandates as a condition to recouping remediation costs

  • Changes in procedure and the increased risk of non-compliance penalties related to DEP’s recent adoption of rules to implement New Jersey’s Grace Period Law

Other speakers addressed issues including new mansion tax developments and realty transfer fees, and the competitiveness of New Jersey’s real estate market in comparison to neighboring states. Following the panel, Gary Rose, Chief of Governor Corzine’s Office of Economic Growth, discussed the state’s Economic Growth Strategy for 2007.

Susan is a member of our firm’s Environmental & Brownfields practice group. She has pursued numerous Redevelopment Agreements under the brownfields law, pursuant to which our clients have qualified for substantial reimbursements of cleanup costs.
