John J. Reilly is a partner in the firm and chairs our Litigation & Condemnation practice group.
John concentrates in condemnation, eminent domain, redevelopment, environmental litigation and real estate.
John has counseled and represented clients in numerous jury and non-jury trials and administrative hearings in condemnation, redevelopment, prerogative writ, environmental, land use, quiet title, local property tax appeal, construction, commercial landlord-tenant, and insurance coverage matters.
He has briefed and argued before the New Jersey Supreme Court and the state’s Appellate Division, and has briefed before the United States Supreme Court on condemnation issues. He has participated on panels at national and state seminars on condemnation, redevelopment and highway access issues and he has written articles on condemnation-related issues. He has testified at hearings before New Jersey State Legislative committees on proposed legislation concerning condemnation and environmental issues.
Prior to joining the firm, John was counsel for ten years with the Gibbons law firm in Newark, New Jersey, where he represented numerous property owners in condemnation matters and served as special condemnation counsel to governmental agencies. Before that, he served for sixteen years as a New Jersey Deputy Attorney General, representing the Department of Transportation, Department of Environmental Protection and other state agencies.
John is a member of the Bar of the State of New Jersey, the United States District Court for New Jersey, and the United States Supreme Court. He is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association and an affiliate member of the Appraisal Institute.
John received a B.A., magna cum laude, from Seton Hall University in 1974. He received his J.D. from the University of Notre Dame Law School in 1977, where he served as articles editor of the law review, “Notre Dame Lawyer.”
John is named in Best Lawyers in America in the area of Eminent Domain and Condemnation Law. He is accorded Martindale-Hubbell’s highest AV rating.
